"The present creates the future. And where we are now, is a result of the past". "I have worked to develop a distinctive style which is earthy, simple and unpretentious. Creating from natural materials presents a refreshing alternative to the world of fast living and instant access technology, drawing the viewer on a deeper, even spiritual level." - Artist Richard Hoey, born Cheshire, England, 1968.

Inspired by ancient art and their textures which are imperfect and variegated, combined with his love of modernism which is polished and smooth, Artist Richard Hoey combines simple form and textures through his unique skill of layering metal leaf, earth pigments, plaster, and waxes. Along with the carving of grooves and lines, these elements give his paintings and sculpture a very tactile element, appealing to the touch.

Through his technique, the Artist's intention is to connect us to our primitive past. The use of symbolism, particularly the circle, the simplest of forms, has profound meaning in all civilizations, whereas the lines and grooves are applied in order to demonstrate the passing of time and the effects of erosion. These distinctive facets are the signature to Richard's work.
